ELLIE POP - s/t (MAINSTREAM 1968)

this is a nice summertime sunshine sixties pop album. every song has like two or three good song parts but sometimes they don't always fit together in a way that makes sense. songs will slow down for no reason or like out of nowhere the song will go into a waltz time. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. it's all pretty good and catchy, though.

GUIDED BY VOICES - TONICS AND TWISTED CHASERS (ROCKATHON 1996)

this album is almost completely written and performed by robert pollard and tobin sprout who later went on to form airport 5. surprisingly, this album sounds exactly like the two airport 5 albums released in the early 00's. the catchy fake-british power of pollard's vocal melodies is nothing short of astounding. how he manages to hide secret catchy parts inside of minute-long halfsongs is a mystery best left for expert detectives like sherlock holmes or maybe his great-grand niece shirley.

ERIC'S TRIP - FOREVER AGAIN (SUB POP 1994)

what a good album to celebrate the beginning of autumn (cause it is like a tight familiar sweater that is both comforting and claustrophobic at the same time).

this record is real good for like a slow bike ride or a stoned soul picnic.

ZERFAS - ZERFAS (700 WEST 1973)

holy crud! this site here has more information about this album than i could ever say on a blog, but let me say this : this album is one of the greatest psychedelic pop albums ever released even though it was recorded like five years (which is a long time if you think about it) after the huge psych-rock boom of the late sixties. like half of the songs on this album are in a bummer territory, but it's cool cause there's tons of cool sounds and awesome hooks in each tune. when i get to my five favourite songs of all time (and i will get there just give me some time), one of the songs on this album will be there.

ELLIOTT SMITH - FIGURE 8 (2000 DREAMWORKS)

there are so many gorgeous sounds on this album that it isn't even funny. another unfunny thing is suicide so think twice before you roll the dice. elliott smith was such a talented songwriter, easily on the same level as harry nilsson or christopher cross. beautiful pop songs that belong to a time of their own.
